Classified:
Instructions on placing classified ads for job vacancies are available at www.ohr.wisc.edu/polproced/UPPP/304.html. A special newsprint–compatible version of the UW–Madison logo for use in classified ads can be downloaded at www.uc.wisc.edu/logo/getlogo.html. For further instructions on how to design a classified ad, see www.uc.wisc.edu/logo/ads.html.
Display:
Display advertising should include the UW–Madison logo. Graphic identity guidelines and multiple versions of the UW–Madison logo can be found elsewhere on this site. Please note that the university has formal policies in place that govern the use of advertising, commercial use, gifts, sponsorships, and the use of university marks. It is suggested that you review these policies before placing advertisements. For more information, see www.wisc.edu/legal/legalservices/general.html.
Awnings
Awnings are used only in very special circumstances and must be approved by Physical Plant. The Campus Planning Committee occasionally requires further approval. For more information, contact Physical Plant (265‒3510).
Banners
There is a specific approval process for banners on campus. Banners are typically approved for temporary two–week installations that are for special one–time events. Visit www.physicalplant.wisc.edu and search for “banners” for more information. The banners displayed on Bascom Hill and Bascom Hall are produced and scheduled by University Communications.
Banners are not permitted on the pedestrian bridges over University Avenue and Park Street.
Banners displayed on the Alicia Ashman Pedestrian Bridge over Campus Drive require approval from the City Clerk’s Office, City of Madison. For more information, contact Physical Plant (265-3510).
Campus map
As a service to both the campus community and visitors to campus, an official campus map is available from UW-Madison’s Cartography Lab. Created by the Cartography Lab and University Communications in conjunction with the Campus Information and Visitor Center (CIVC), and Facilities, Planning and Management, the campus map is updated annually and should be used in all print and online materials that require a UW-Madison map.
This map serves as the basis for a printed UW-Madison Visitor Map and Guide, which can be obtained free of charge via the CIVC Web site.
For digital versions of the official campus map, contact Onno Brouwer at the UW-Madison Cartography Lab, (608) 262-1366 or obrouwer@wisc.edu. Please note that if you need a modified version of the campus map for use in your print or online publications, the Cartography Lab will provide this service for a small fee.
Signage
Campus signage is managed by the Physical Plant. Call 265-3510, or visit the Physical Plant Web site for more information.
Sponsorship
Revenue from sales of Bucky window decals, Badger water bottles, “W” hats, Wisconsin sweaters and other officially trademarked items raise finds for the university. The licensing program generated just over $1.6 million in royalties in 2005. Information and policies on trademarks, licensing and sponsorship can be found at www.wisc.edu/licensing/policies.html
Trademarks
The Office of Trademark Licensing oversees the use of UW–Madison logos and trademarks. For more information, visit www.wisc.edu/licensing. The symbols “™” and “®” should not used in narratives or running text, nor can they be used interchangeably.
