Photo Library usage guidelines

These photographs are created and/or acquired by University Communications for uses that support and promote information about the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Photographs are available to news media organizations and UW-Madison entities for news, editorial and public relations uses —  both print and electronic — that are directly related to and specifically about UW-Madison. Examples of acceptable use include university-related news and feature stories, brochures, displays, presentations, publications, and Web sites.

These photos are NOT available for generic use that is unrelated to UW-Madison. Image credit — which is required as part of acceptable use — does not on its own suffice as reference to UW-Madison. In addition, University Communications photography that shows subject matter other than UW-Madison, such as downtown Madison, may be used only by UW-Madison entities to further promote university-sponsored initiatives.

Published photos must include a credit (“photographer’s name/University of Wisconsin-Madison” or “courtesy of”). The specific credit and other details are embedded in the metadata for each digital photo, which can be viewed using an image editing program such as Photoshop and selecting “file>file info.”

In keeping with University Communications photo guidelines, no image may be modified, altered or used in any way that changes or misrepresents the photograph’s content or overall original context.
