Every
May, about the time the lilacs bloom, a group of 40 faculty and staff from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison turn in their last grades, check their
email one more time and embark on a five-day experience called the Wisconsin
Idea Seminar.
Sponsored by the UW-Madison Graduate School and the Evjue Foundation, which is the charitable arm of The Capital Times, the trip has given more than 600 newly hired or tenured faculty and staff over the past 20 years the opportunity to connect with some of Wisconsin’s political, industrial, agricultural and educational centers, and meet citizens from all walks of life.
The goal of the seminar is to foster outreach and give promote the notion of the Wisconsin Idea, or the view that the borders of the university should extend to the borders of the state and beyond.
